how about “we’re gonna just rip off the slanket, it’s pretty popular on the web, but we’ll advertise on TV and use lower quality materials! genius!”
Ideas are Important But not because of why you think. Three current perceptions of the Snuggie: There are people out there saying, “WOW, why didn’t I think of that?” This is the real secret of ideas: Ideas are able to be communicated. Ideas are vision nuggets. If you happen to stumble on an idea that you are excited enough about, you have stamina to repeat it without constantly modifying it until it is unrecognizable. Three Reactions to pitching the Snuggie: 1. Imagine of the Snuggie creator had said something like this to his peers: “I’m going to revolutionize personal warming devices. Rather than create something that you wear, or something that you just cover yourself with, my product will do both.” Then people would say “I don’t get it.” 2. He or she might elaborate at that point and say something like: “Well, see the problem with coats is they just aren’t very cozy. This thing is gonna make you feel all snug when it’s on. You’ll be able to kind of feel like wearing a blanket, but its also gonna have holes in it that you can put your hands through.” 3. Then the person would react and maybe say something like: “Are you talking about something like a jacket that doesn’t have a back to it. Why would I want it, isn’t that just going to make me feel cold?” At this point if the Snuggie creator might get frustrated and exclaim. “WTF, it’s simple, it’s a BLANKET WITH SLEEVES OK” Five minutes later he’s nailed it. After that it’s his mantra. “Blanket with Sleeves” I believe this is the key to the ‘niche’ focus. It’s a hack to be able to get people on board with your project. Everyone can understand what you’re making, even you. Many of these stupid ideas will fail, but a massive hedge against failure is the simplicity AND accuracy in the description. A succinct bad idea can often overtake a good idea that is hard to communicate. It’s so simple, even an idiot can understand it. |

The blanket with sleeves is a good idea, for anyone who has ever had a blanket on when sitting or when lying down outside. Its a pain to hold on to some part of the blanket to keep it on, now, since your arms do the job due to holes, this is automagic. This is a good idea. You dont get it. That is a flaw in you, not the idea. Go get a brain. |

Yes. I have had this many times, when pitching an idea. You need to know how to describe it in a short brief understandable way, otherwise people just won’t get it. Plus – often people are quite defensive / negative when you first pitch an idea. They nearly always answer with ‘Why would I / anyone want to do that?’ or ’Doesn’t that already exist with x.y.z’ … The reality is, an idea is just that, it’s the execution that makes the difference. |
